Barren Island,Volcano:

Barren Island, a small volcanic island in the Indian Ocean and a part of the Andaman and Nicobar chain of islands, is the only active volcano in the Indian subcontinent region. It is located 135 km northeast of Port Blair in east Andaman Sea.

There have been historical reports of eruption in 1787, 1789, 1795, 1803, possibly 1852, 1991 and 1995. Barren Island is the only historically active volcano along a volcanic arc connecting Sumatra and Myanmar (Burma). The small 3-km-wide island contains a 0.5 km wide crater, partially filled by a cinder cone that has been the source of eruptions since the first was recorded in 1787.The eruption which has happened in 1991 and 1995 was monitored using Landsat TM data. Another eruption in 2005 was also monitored using IRS-P6 AWIFS data

Satellite Data was used to monitor the eruption. IRS-P6 AWIFS data of pre and post eruption was used to map the eruption
